Cheese and Crackers!! This is a phrase I’ve heard quite a bit since Jake and the Neverland Pirates invaded our home a couple of years ago. It is a fun child-friendly expletive and Girlie likes it quite a bit. I offered her a meat option and two vegetarian options today and you can guess what she picked… Cheese and Crackers!
They both have cheese, crackers, and apples with peanut butter. Girlie got honeydew, cucumber and yellow bell pepper. Little Dude got ham and yogurt. I am not sure if Little Dude will eat the ham… he tends to not like to eat meat, but I know he won’t eat the honeydew, so I gave it a try. Girlie is holding strong on being a vegetarian and even said no to cheeseburgers for dinner tonight. We’ll see!
I just had the fun experience of taking her to her first dermatologist visit. She has eczema and some weird bubbly things on her arm that her pediatrician thought should be frozen off by a dermatologist. Of course, things could not be that simple and the dermatologist needed to scrape them off with a special tool. Just the sheer thought of this caused my poor girlie so much anxiety that she gave herself a nosebleed! She was crying and shaking and just horrified. She did eventually settle down and decided to try, and it was very fast and not too painful, but it did bleed and there were just so many that she didn’t feel she could do it. We are going to try a course of Retin-A to hopefully irritate these suckers until they burst??? But we very well may end up having to scrape these nasties off anyway. Yuuuuuck!
Aside from bribery and distraction (both of which I tried at the doc’s office), do you have any tricks to get a 5 year old to endure an unpleasant procedure like this? I am sure this will not be the last time!
