I had a really cute bento idea that I was going to make this morning. I’ll have to remember it for another day this week, because my sweet little Girlie climbed into my bed at the crack of dawn and started whispering her requests to me… she wanted a breakfast bento for lunch! She asked for cereal, a cheese stick, and a juice box. I do keep a few juice boxes on hand, but I rarely dole them out. I considered giving her one, but then I remembered I had those shamrock shakes in the freezer, so I could give her whole fruit and veggies in a smoothie instead.
Cute, right? Little Dude has pears and red grapes in the fruit compartment of his Kotobuki Lunch Box. In the bottom, he has a cereal bar (an ongoing favorite) and a peanut butter filled banana (his new favorite). He ate half the banana for his breakfast and I saved the other half for his lunch. Girlie has pears and blueberries and her bottom compartment has cereal. It is some strange Organic Flax cereal she picked up at Trader Joe’s. I hope she likes it! She has milk in her Hello Kitty Thermos and either she’ll pour it in to the froggy or she’ll pour the cereal in the thermos. I am intrigued to hear what she does with it… What would you do? I included the requested cheese stick and this small smoothie in the freezer ball jar. The smoothie is ice, kale, orange, pineapple, and banana, with enough water to get the blender moving. The kids love it! She’s getting a lot of fruits and veggies this way! I made a big batch and froze for later. If I put it frozen in her lunchbag, it helps keep the rest of her lunch cold, while slowly defrosting itself for lunch-time use! I got this idea from the Smoothies 101 post at another great blog, Meet the Dubiens!
And on the topic of veggies, you have to see Little Dude in his aVEGers t-shirt from shirt.woot:
I love this veggie spin on a comic movie I am super excited to see this summer! It has a broccoli hulk, tomato Captain America, red pepper Iron Man, and carrot Thor. Is this taking our healthy lifestyle too far? Maybe. Is it just me being a nerd? Definitely!
I can’t resist! Here is the closeup from woot’s site:
And finally, in other news, I am so excited to say that I have heard from some of you and learned that you are trying to make some simple, healthy, and fun lunches for your own kids! A mom at school today said she made him a simple bento-style lunch and her kid said it was the best lunch ever!! This is the whole point of my blogging this. I found great blogs to help me get started. I am thrilled to show my ideas to readers and help you get started too! Anyone who knows me ‘in real life’ knows that I am not crafty and generally don’t cook. If I can do this… ANYONE can!
